on

Hull KR’s journey in the Super League era has been marked by resilience and moments of brilliance. After gaining promotion in 2006, the Robins have navigated highs and lows, including a playoff push in 2009 and relegation in 2016. However, a quick return in 2017 reaffirmed their place in the top flight. Across 13 years of Super League action, Hull KR has been home to several standout players, five of whom define the club’s Super League story.

Michael Dobson
No discussion about Hull KR’s Super League stars is complete without Michael Dobson. Joining the Robins in 2008, the halfback became a Craven Park icon over six stellar seasons. In 2009, Dobson guided Hull KR to a remarkable fourth-place finish, earning a spot in the Super League Dream Team. Across 153 appearances, he scored nearly 1,300 points, leaving an indelible mark as perhaps the greatest Super League player in the club’s history.

Clint Newton
The versatile Clint Newton made an immediate impact when he joined Hull KR in 2008. A powerful and passionate forward, Newton featured in 100 games, crossing the try line 40 times. His efforts earned him a place in the 2009 Super League Dream Team. Equally adept in both the front and back rows, Newton’s tireless work ethic and leadership endeared him to the Robins faithful.

Ben Galea
A Grand Final winner with the Wests Tigers in the NRL, Ben Galea brought his commanding presence to Hull KR in 2008. Over five seasons, he made 126 appearances and scored 36 tries, becoming a pivotal figure in the Robins’ pack. Known for his fierce competitiveness and reliability, Galea’s performances in 2009 earned him a Dream Team spot and lasting respect from fans and teammates alike.

Albert Kelly
Although Albert Kelly only spent two seasons at Craven Park, his creativity and attacking flair left a lasting impression. A dynamic halfback with an uncanny ability to exploit gaps in defensive lines, Kelly scored 23 tries in 43 appearances. Despite his brief tenure and off-field challenges, his electrifying performances rank him among Hull KR’s finest Super League talents.

Josh Hodgson
Josh Hodgson began his career at Hull FC but truly found his feet on the east side of Hull. Making his debut under Justin Morgan in 2010, the hooker grew into one of Super League’s most influential players during his five seasons with the Robins. His 134 appearances showcased his relentless determination and skill, earning him a move to the Canberra Raiders in the NRL, where he continues to excel on the global stage.

These five players represent the heart and soul of Hull KR during their Super League years. From guiding the team to new heights to leaving an enduring legacy at Craven Park, they exemplify the passion and talent that has defined the Robins’ Super League journey.
