Daniel Farke has swiftly acted to downplay wild rumours in Germany that Jurgen Klopp may succeed him as Leeds United’s manager. He maintains that the team has a clear plan, while another commentator has denied that the Whites manager is in danger of losing his job.
Following Leeds’ third-place finish with 90 points, the highest total not to earn automatic promotion in the second division since 1997, and his team’s 1-0 loss to Southampton in the play-off final, Farke came dangerously close to missing out on promotion back to the Premier League with Leeds at the first attempt.
Farke and Leeds have started the new season well, losing just one of their nine games played thus far, and with the four victories they have already secured, they are presently sitting in fifth place, despite having to bid farewell to talent valued at almost £120 million as a result of that setback.
However, with Red Bull purchasing a minority stake in Leeds United this summer, reports in the German publication SportBild this week state that Klopp, Red Bull’s new head of global soccer, has been instructed to “close watch” Farke’s progress this season and amid improbable rumours that he could even succeed him as Leeds manager.
