NRL Forward Weighs Super League Move Amid NRL Uncertainty

Former Canterbury Bulldogs forward Liam Knight is keeping his options open as he navigates an uncertain future in rugby league. Following his release from the Bulldogs at the end of last season, the 29-year-old remains without a contract for 2024, leaving the possibility of a move to England’s Super League on the table. However, Knight remains steadfast in his desire to continue his career in the NRL.

Speaking with 9News Australia, Knight shared his determination to secure a deal with an NRL club, describing his proactive approach to finding opportunities. “There aren’t many spots available in the NRL, so I’m knocking on every door, even calling coaches myself,” he said. “My management has been incredible, and I just need to stay ready.” Knight also reflected on personal growth, saying, “I’ve had to overcome some challenges and work on things that held me back. People used to see me as reckless, but that couldn’t be further from the truth now.”

Despite his unwavering focus on the NRL, Knight acknowledged that a move to the Super League is a serious consideration if opportunities in Australia don’t materialize. Super League clubs, including Catalans Dragons and Huddersfield Giants, have been offered the chance to recruit Knight, though their available roster spots remain limited. With the Super League season starting in February, further player movements could create new openings, potentially paving the way for Knight to cross hemispheres.

When asked about relocating to England, Knight was candid: “I’ve thought about it—it’s definitely an option. If that’s the path I need to take, I’ll go. I’m not done; I’ve still got plenty to give. But I love Australia, and staying here is my priority.”

While Knight’s immediate future remains uncertain, his determination and readiness to adapt make him a compelling option for both NRL and Super League clubs. Whether he stays in Australia or ventures to England, it’s clear Knight is prepared to embrace whatever opportunities come his way.
