Los Angeles Lakers targeting $21.5 million Hawks forward to strengthen Championship hopes alongside Luka Doncic

The Los Angeles Lakers have already made headlines this season with the blockbuster acquisition of Luka Doncic, but their front office is still on the lookout for reinforcements. The Lakers are reportedly considering a move for Larry Nance Jr., who could become available via the buyout market.

Currently with the Atlanta Hawks, Nance has had an impressive season despite playing a limited role behind Clint Capela and Onyeka Okongwu. Through 22 games, he has averaged 8.2 points and 4.3 rebounds, shooting a career-best 46.4% from three-point range. His defensive contributions have also been notable, boasting a 113 defensive rating per 100 possessions and a 0.9 defensive box plus-minus, demonstrating his value as a two-way player.

Reports suggest that while the Hawks have indicated an interest in keeping Nance beyond this season, the veteran big man may be seeking a bigger role. NBA insider John Hollinger noted that despite his expiring contract, his Bird rights make him valuable to Atlanta. However, with limited minutes as the team’s third center, Nance could be looking to contribute to a team with championship aspirations.

A return to Los Angeles would be a fitting move for Nance, who was originally drafted by the Lakers in 2015 and became known as one of the league’s most exciting dunkers. Now, with his game evolving to include floor spacing and defensive versatility, he could seamlessly fit alongside Doncic and LeBron James. His ability to set screens, protect the rim, and stretch the floor would complement the Lakers’ offensive system, making him a valuable addition to their playoff push.

If the Lakers can secure Nance through a buyout, it would further bolster their depth and provide another key piece to their championship pursuit. With Doncic and James leading the charge, adding a versatile forward like Nance could prove to be a strategic move for a deep postseason run.
