Essendon Bolsters Future Draft Hand in Key Pick Swap with Melbourne

Published

on

Essendon Football Club has enhanced its draft position through a notable pick exchange with Melbourne, completed on Monday morning. The Bombers traded their No.9 pick in this year’s draft, along with a future third-round selection, to secure Melbourne’s picks No.28, 40, 46, 54, 65, and a future first-round pick. This move significantly strengthens Essendon’s draft prospects for the next two years.

The club’s strategy is to build a strong talent pipeline, now with the potential to bring in three first-round prospects over the next two drafts. Importantly, the additional later picks give the Bombers the flexibility to protect their first-round selection, ensuring they can match any potential bids for promising players, such as Isaac Kako, without sacrificing top-end picks. The swap reinforces their draft positioning without compromising their long-term plans.
