Colorado and Deion Sanders are losing two important assistant coaches to SEC school
Colorado football, led by Deion Sanders, is undergoing another offseason staff reshuffle as two key assistants, Phil Loadholt and Vincent Dancy, prepare to leave for Mississippi State. The departures highlight the dynamic and competitive nature of college football coaching as Sanders works to sustain Colorado’s progress.
Offensive Line Upgrade Under Loadholt
Loadholt, Colorado’s offensive line coach, was instrumental in improving the Buffaloes’ protection schemes. Joining Sanders’ staff last offseason, he helped reduce sacks by 17 compared to 2023, bolstering quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ performance. A former NFL tackle with the Minnesota Vikings, Loadholt’s professional experience was pivotal to Colorado’s offensive improvement. His strong relationship with new Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby, built through prior stints at UCF, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma, factored heavily into his move to Starkville.
Defensive Gains Under Dancy
Dancy, initially brought on as a defensive quality control analyst, was quickly promoted to defensive ends coach. His guidance allowed players like BJ Green II and Arden Walker to excel, contributing to a revitalized defensive front. Dancy’s prior experience as head coach at Mississippi Valley State adds to his reputation as a skilled developer of talent, making him a valuable addition to Mississippi State’s staff.
Mississippi State’s Rebuild
After a disastrous 2-10 season in 2024, Mississippi State is seeking a reset. The acquisitions of Loadholt and Dancy represent strategic moves to inject leadership and expertise into a program aiming to rebound in the SEC.
Challenges for Sanders in Colorado
For Sanders, this marks the second straight offseason of staff turnover, coming on the heels of Colorado’s 36-14 loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl. Replacing Loadholt and Dancy will be critical as he works to maintain Colorado’s upward trajectory in the competitive Big 12. Rebuilding his coaching staff is a priority to ensure the program’s continued growth and success.
