Essendon Bombers Trade Outlook for the Off-Season

Published

on

The Bombers find themselves in an intriguing position regarding their roster, which means some significant decisions lie ahead for list boss Matt Rosa this off-season. The most pressing question involves Jake Stringer, who is reportedly telling people he has played his last game for Essendon and is ready to move on. According to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey, Stringer has activated a contract extension for 2025, but his future remains uncertain as he seeks a more long-term deal.

In other contract discussions, the Bombers have offered a one-year deal to Jayden Laverde, although the key defender has been linked to St Kilda, where he might secure a more extended contract. The Saints are also interested in midfielder Dylan Shiel, while Ben Hobbs has been associated with Collingwood as he looks for increased senior opportunities. Meanwhile, Harrison Jones, Will Setterfield, and Sam Weideman are still waiting on their contracts for 2025.

There’s speculation about whether Essendon could make a move for Gold Coast small forward Malcolm Rosas Jr., who has been encouraged to explore his options. Adding Rosas would certainly enhance their squad, although he seems more inclined to remain with the Suns. Additionally, the Bombers are set to welcome NGA prospect Isaac Kako in the draft, widely regarded as one of the top small forwards available this year. Interestingly, there are whispers of Zach Merrett attracting interest from St Kilda, but it’s expected that the Bombers would simply decline any offers.
