Former CFL LB Nominated for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award

Canadian-American linebacker Alex Singleton, known for his exceptional contributions both on and off the field, has been nominated by the Denver Broncos for the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. This honor highlights players who demonstrate exemplary leadership and dedication to their communities while excelling in professional football. Singleton’s nomination underscores his impactful role within the Broncos organization and beyond.

Singleton, 30, has been a tireless advocate for community initiatives during his time in Denver. He has actively participated in events like the Special Olympics Winter Games and raised significant funds through his Tackling Inclusion program. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he partnered with his sister to co-host virtual workouts aimed at promoting fitness and inclusion. From taking the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Colorado to presenting at school assemblies and supporting various local sports programs, Singleton has continually shown his commitment to making a difference in Colorado.

Despite facing adversity on the field this season, including a torn ACL after just three games, Singleton’s football career remains impressive. Standing six-foot-two and weighing 240 pounds, he has played in 76 NFL games since joining the league in 2019. Over his career, Singleton has amassed 633 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, four sacks, 13 pass deflections, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles while playing for both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Broncos. This season alone, prior to his injury, he recorded 31 tackles, one interception, and one pass breakup.

A former CFL standout, Singleton began his professional career with the Calgary Stampeders after being selected in the first round of the 2016 CFL Draft. His stellar performance in Canada earned him the title of the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2017. Now in the second year of a three-year, $18 million deal with Denver, Singleton also serves as a team captain, embodying leadership both in the locker room and the community.

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award will be presented on February 6, 2025, ahead of Super Bowl LIX. Singleton’s nomination is a testament to his dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment to positively impacting lives beyond the game of football.
