Former Manly Player Lloyd Perrett Moves Forward with Legal Action Over Serious Training Injuries
Former Manly Sea Eagles prop Lloyd Perrett is moving forward with potential legal action against the club following severe injuries he claims to have sustained during a training session. Perrett, who has not played since 2019, is seeking documents related to a 2017 incident where he was allegedly denied water during rigorous training.
Perrett has engaged Brisbane-based legal firm Carter Capner to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 2017 training session. The firm has reached out to the Sea Eagles for crucial information to assess whether there are grounds for a legal claim. The requested documents include Perrett’s employment records, fitness assessments, witness statements, and details of the club’s training programs from that period.
The legal letter outlines Perrett’s grievances, alleging that the training conditions were dangerously strenuous. It cites several issues, including the requirement for players to complete three consecutive 2 km time trials in extreme heat without access to water, and a lack of monitoring of the players’ health during these trials. Perrett’s legal team has warned that they will escalate the matter to the Federal Court of Australia if the Sea Eagles do not comply by September 26.
Perrett’s decision to pursue legal action was partly influenced by the coronial inquest into the death of former teammate Keith Titmuss, who was reported to have died from exertional heatstroke. Perrett has expressed that his motivations are not financially driven but stem from a sense of survivor’s guilt and a desire for accountability. Despite concerns about public perception, he feels compelled to act, emphasizing that the case is about seeking justice rather than financial gain.
