Bloomington, IN – In a stunning display of generosity and commitment to his alma mater, Indiana Hoosiers basketball star Trayce Jackson-Davis has pledged to donate $1 million to support the university’s athletic programs

The announcement was made at a press conference on Wednesday, where Jackson-Davis was joined by Indiana University athletic director Scott Dolson and head basketball coach Mike Woodson.

BLOOMINGTON – Listed in an NBA mock draft or two, Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis could at least consider the possibility of becoming a “one-and-done.”

But like anyone attempting to enter such an elite league, the weaknesses in the 6-foot-9 forward’s game were going to be picked apart.

Sure, he’s long and athletic, active around the basket, a plus rim-runner, rebounder, and shot-blocker. But he relies overly much on his left hand offensively. He doesn’t shoot much outside of the paint, either.

Weighing the pros and cons of the NBA, Jackson-Davis wasn’t guaranteed an outsized reward. And the risk of entering the draft during a pandemic, when it wasn’t assured there would be workouts to improve his stock, the question was more easily settled in his mind.

“I didn’t really know, with the whole corona(virus) deal, how that was gonna play out,” Jackson-Davis said. “I needed workouts to boost a lot of my stock, so I decided that it would be easier just to come back for a second year.”

In late April, Jackson-Davis announced via social media that he had “unfinished business,” and “Year 2” at IU was coming. It’s a year that will reveal just how much room the Hoosiers’ star forward has to grow, and the Hoosiers with him.

More will be expected. At times during the 2019-20 season, IU coach Archie Miller acknowledged how unfair it was, the amount of pressure that was on the freshman — a freshman who just so happened to be the Hoosiers’ leader in average points (13.5), rebounds (8.4), and blocks (1.9), among other categories. Nonetheless, so much of the Hoosiers’ success hinged on whether Jackson-Davis could play his best game.
