North Melbourne Makes Tough Trade Decision on Shinboners
In a decisive move ahead of the upcoming trade period, North Melbourne has cleared four roster spots by parting ways with four players: Curtis Taylor, Bigoa Nyoun, Tyler Sellers, and Hamish Free. This decision signals the Kangaroos’ intent to reshape their lineup for a more dynamic off-season.
Curtis Taylor, at 24 years old, stands out as the most notable departure. He made a significant impact during his time with the Roos, playing 76 games since his debut in 2019 and averaging 15 disposals in 2022. However, his recent performance has been underwhelming, with only eight appearances this season, where he averaged just 11 touches and four marks. His exit marks the end of a chapter for a player who once held promise within the club.
Bigoa Nyoun, aged 23, had a limited run with only four senior matches under his belt during three years with North Melbourne. His potential was glimpsed during his first game of 2024, where he recorded 19 disposals and seven marks, but he struggled to secure a consistent spot on the team. At 197cm tall, he may attract interest from other clubs looking to tap into his abilities.
Tyler Sellers, 22, joined as a supplementary selection in 2024 but only featured in two games, both of which resulted in heavy losses for the team. His brief tenure showed little promise, leading to his departure.
Hamish Free, at 26, never made it to the senior side after being selected in the 2022 Rookie Draft. At 203cm, he remains a tall prospect who could pique the interest of other teams needing ruck support.
North Melbourne’s General Manager of Football, Todd Viney, expressed his regret over these decisions but also offered gratitude for the contributions of each player. He acknowledged Curtis Taylor as a well-liked member of the team and thanked all four players for their dedication during their time at the club. “It’s always tough having to make these kinds of decisions,” Viney said, wishing the departing players success in their future endeavors.
