P.J. Washington Discusses Mavericks’ NBA Finals Defeat
In a recent interview with The Dallas Morning News, P.J. Washington reflected on the Dallas Mavericks’ loss to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. He attributed the defeat to inconsistency, stating, “I think [inconsistency is] what cost us. We had to play the way we played to get there, but I don’t feel like we did that in the Finals.”
Despite the disappointment of falling short in five games, Washington remains optimistic about the team’s future. He noted that the experience gained from the Finals has motivated the Mavericks to improve and contend for another championship.
Washington, who played a pivotal role in the playoffs after joining the Mavericks at the trade deadline, acknowledged his struggles in the Finals, averaging just 10.8 points and shooting 27.3% from three-point range. He had been a key contributor earlier in the playoffs, helping the Mavericks upset the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder.
With the addition of players like Klay Thompson and Naji Marshall, Washington believes the Mavericks are set for another deep playoff run. He emphasized that the team’s core is intact and the valuable experience from last season will be instrumental moving forward
