Paul Mullin Faces Tough Competition for Regular Starts at Wrexham
Wrexham striker Paul Mullin, who has been instrumental in the club’s back-to-back promotions, faces stiff competition for regular starts despite his return to full fitness. Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made significant recruitment moves, strengthening the squad, particularly in the striking department. While Mullin’s recall to the starting XI in Wrexham’s 2-1 victory over Crawley is a positive sign, head coach Phil Parkinson has made it clear that no player is guaranteed a permanent spot in the lineup.
The Dragons’ roster depth, especially up front, has introduced fierce competition for places, with players like Jack Marriott also vying for striking roles. Marriott, who has already netted three goals this season, was benched for Mullin during the Crawley match. Parkinson noted that the decision wasn’t about ranking one player over the other but about maintaining freshness and balance within the squad. Both Mullin and Marriott remain crucial to Wrexham’s ongoing campaign.
After recovering from surgery earlier this summer, Mullin is eager to prove himself again. Though he’s only scored once this season, in the Football League Trophy, Parkinson acknowledges that Mullin still needs more playing time to reach peak form. The manager emphasized the importance of rotation, ensuring all key players stay prepared for the long season ahead.
As Wrexham prepares for an upcoming clash against Leyton Orient, Mullin will be hoping to retain his place and continue contributing to the team’s success. Currently, Wrexham leads the League One table, holding a slight advantage over Birmingham City. The intense competition within the squad signals positive growth, positioning the club well for further achievements.
