Trade Talks Heat Up Between Collingwood, Essendon and Interstate Clubs, As Trade Period Approaches Deadline

Published

on

Collingwood, Essendon, and several interstate teams are currently engaged in intense negotiations as the trade window approaches its deadline. Central to these discussions is a potential three-way deal involving Dan Houston, who has expressed a preference to join the Magpies. This proposed arrangement would see Collingwood sending John Noble and Joe Richards to Gold Coast and Port Adelaide, respectively. However, talks have hit a standstill, with the Suns rejecting Collingwood’s offer, which included a future first-round pick and Noble in exchange for their picks 13 and 23.

Collingwood’s strategy hinges on acquiring pick 13 to package with Richards for Houston, while they aim to retain pick 23 for the upcoming draft. Yet, the Power have shown reluctance to accept this proposal. The Suns are motivated to complete this deal not only to acquire Noble but also to help facilitate a trade for Houston, which would allow Port Adelaide to subsequently move their future first-round pick for Jack Lukosius. The AFL has confirmed that Port does not need special permission to execute this trade, further complicating negotiations.
