Some of the best college football players were involved in the Georgia football program last season; NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah listed four Bulldog players—including wide receiver Ladd McConkey—on his top 50 big board. McConkey accepted an invitation to the annual Reese’s Senior Bowl because he is still determined to draw attention, even after putting up impressive stats at Georgia. Executive director of the all-star game Jim Nagy stated that the Georgia football wide receiver was voted “top WR” on the American squad by his defensive back colleagues during practice player-of-the-week awards.
At the Reese’s Bowl, several other players were honored, including McConkey’s Georgia teammate Javon Bullard, Alabama kicker Will Reichard, Missouri’s Darius Robinson, and Iowa Hawkeyes punter Tory Taylor.
Ladd McConkey: Making an impression at the All-Star Game
McConkey caused a stir on social media this week with his Reese’s Senior Bowl practice performance. While McConkey performed well in solo drills, he lost himself in one-on-one drills. He routinely outperformed off-coverage, inside and outside leverage, and press man. The six-foot-186-pound player also dominated in red zone one-on-one exercises, setting himself apart with his quickness and route running prowess.
This week, McConkey has been cut off from the competition by his ability to separate. At the Reese’s Senior Bowl, he attracted attention from his defensive teammates for his ball tracking and ability to stack and stem opposing defensive backs.
Ladd McConkey: Georgia Football’s Domination
Prior to missing his first season of play, McConkey was a former three-star prospect who had 31 receptions for 447 yards and five touchdowns in 2021. With quarterback Stetson Bennett, he recorded his greatest performance in 2022, catching 58 passes for 762 yards and seven touchdowns. He caught five catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns in the College Football National Championship game, when his team easily defeated the TCU Horned Frogs.
Despite his decline this season, McConkey managed to record a respectable 30 catches for 479 yards and two scores. In late October, he had his best game of the season on a natural field against the Florida Gators. In a victory, he had six catches for 135 yards and a touchdown. Compared to nine games the previous year, he only made nine appearances this season. The Bulldogs won’t select the Georgia native as their first offensive skill player pick in the forthcoming draft. Brock Bowers, a tight end, is still a top prospect. Throughout his tenure with the Georgia Bulldogs, he scored 31 touchdowns.
